Indications:
Allergic rhinitis (seasonal and perennial)
Urticaria (hives)
Chronic idiopathic urticaria
Sneezing, runny nose, itchy or watery eyes
Itching of the throat or skin
Pharmacology:
ALCET 5 MG Tablet contains Levocetirizine Dihydrochloride, a third-generation non-sedating antihistamine. It works by selectively blocking H1 histamine receptors, preventing the release of histamine, which causes allergic symptoms like sneezing, itching, and runny nose. It offers longer-lasting relief with fewer sedative effects.
Dosage:
Adults and children over 12 years: 5 mg once daily
Children aged 6–11 years: As advised by physician (commonly 2.5 mg)
Dosage may vary depending on the condition and patient tolerance
Administration:
Take orally with or without food
Should be taken at the same time each day
Swallow whole with water; do not crush or chew
Interaction:
Alcohol and other CNS depressants may enhance drowsiness
May interact with drugs like theophylline or ritonavir
Inform doctor if taking other antihistamines or sedatives
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to Levocetirizine or any piperazine derivatives
Patients with severe renal impairment
Children under 6 years without medical advice
Side Effects:
Common: Drowsiness, dry mouth, fatigue
Less common: Headache, abdominal pain
Rare: Aggression, hallucinations, convulsions
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Pregnancy: Category B – should be used only if clearly needed
Lactation: Excreted in breast milk; caution advised while breastfeeding
Precautions & Warnings:
Use cautiously in patients with epilepsy or kidney problems
May impair ability to drive or operate machinery
Avoid alcohol during medication use
Prolonged use should be under medical supervision
