Indications:
ROCIPRO 500 MG is indicated for the treatment of various bacterial infections, including respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and gastrointestinal infections caused by susceptible organisms.
Pharmacology:
Ciprofloxacin, the active ingredient in ROCIPRO 500 MG, is a broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone antibiotic. It works by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase, an essential enzyme required for DNA replication and transcription, ultimately leading to bacterial cell death.
Dosage and Administration:
Adult Dose: Typically 250-750 mg twice daily depending on the severity of the infection.
Pediatric Dose: As directed by a physician.
Should be taken with or without food, but avoid dairy products during administration.
Interaction:
Avoid concomitant use with antacids containing magnesium or aluminum, as they can reduce the absorption of ciprofloxacin.
Increased risk of QT prolongation if used with certain cardiac medications.
May interact with theophylline, leading to increased levels of theophylline.
Contraindications:
Known hypersensitivity to ciprofloxacin or other fluoroquinolones.
Not recommended for patients with a history of tendon disorders related to fluoroquinolone use.
Side Effects:
Nausea, diarrhea, dizziness, and headache are common side effects.
Rare but serious side effects include tendon rupture and hypersensitivity reactions.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the risk to the fetus.
Excreted in breast milk; caution should be exercised if administered to breastfeeding mothers.
Precautions & Warnings:
Caution in patients with CNS disorders, as it may cause seizures.
Avoid prolonged sun exposure due to photosensitivity risks.
