RIZAMIG 5 MG is indicated for the acute treatment of migraine attacks with or without aura in adults. It is not intended for the prevention of migraines or for the treatment of cluster headaches.

Pharmacology:
Rizatriptan is a selective 5-HT1B/1D receptor agonist that works by narrowing blood vessels in the brain and reducing the release of substances that trigger headache pain, nausea, and sensitivity to light and sound during a migraine.

Dosage and Administration:

  • Recommended Dose: Take 5 mg orally at the first sign of a migraine.

  • A second dose may be taken if the migraine recurs, but not within 2 hours of the first dose.

  • Do not exceed 10 mg in a 24-hour period.

  • Take with or without food, as directed by your physician.

Interaction:

  • Avoid concurrent use with other 5-HT1 agonists or ergotamine-containing drugs.

  • May interact with MAO inhibitors, SSRIs, or SNRIs, increasing the risk of serotonin syndrome.

  • Use caution when taken with propranolol, as it may increase Rizatriptan levels.

Contraindications:

  • Known hypersensitivity to Rizatriptan or any component of the formulation.

  • History of cardiovascular diseases, such as ischemic heart disease or stroke.

  • Severe hepatic or renal impairment.

Side Effects:

  • Common: Drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, and fatigue.

  • Rare but serious: Chest pain, irregular heartbeat, or severe allergic reactions.

Pregnancy & Lactation:

  • Should only be used during pregnancy if the potential benefit justifies the risk.

  • Avoid during breastfeeding, as it is unknown whether Rizatriptan passes into breast milk.

Precautions & Warnings:

  • Not for use in patients with hemiplegic or basilar migraines.

  • Caution in patients with risk factors for cardiovascular disease, such as high blood pressure or diabetes.

  • Avoid alcohol while using this medication.

Therapeutic Class:

  • Anti-migraine preparations (5-HT1 receptor agonists)

Storage Conditions:

  • Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture.

  • Keep out of reach of children.
