XELPID 40 MG TABLET is indicated for the treatment of severe hypercholesterolemia, mixed dyslipidemia, and as a high-potency option to reduce cardiovascular events in high-risk patients.
Pharmacology:
Rosuvastatin is a selective HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor. By inhibiting the enzyme responsible for cholesterol synthesis in the liver, it effectively lowers LDL cholesterol, total cholesterol, and triglycerides while modestly increasing HDL cholesterol.
Dosage & Administration:
Adults: Start with 20 mg once daily for severe cases. The maximum recommended dose is 40 mg once daily, reserved for patients who require aggressive cholesterol reduction.
Take with or without food, preferably at the same time each day.
Interaction:
Risk of myopathy increases when combined with fibrates or high doses of niacin.
May interact with anticoagulants, requiring INR monitoring in patients on warfarin.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to Rosuvastatin or its components.
Active liver disease or unexplained persistent elevations in liver enzymes.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Side Effects:
Common: Headache, nausea, abdominal pain, muscle pain, and fatigue.
Rare: Severe muscle damage (rhabdomyolysis), liver dysfunction, or hypersensitivity reactions.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Contraindicated during pregnancy. Women of childbearing potential must use effective contraception.
Not recommended during lactation.
Precautions & Warnings:
Regular monitoring of liver function tests is recommended.
Use with caution in patients with a history of liver disease or heavy alcohol consumption.
Discontinue immediately if signs of muscle damage or hypersensitivity occur.
