ZOVENTA 200 MG Capsule is indicated for the treatment of bacterial infections such as:
Respiratory tract infections (e.g., bronchitis, pneumonia).
Urinary tract infections (UTIs).
Skin and soft tissue infections.
Ear, nose, and throat infections (e.g., sinusitis, pharyngitis).
Gonorrhea and other susceptible bacterial infections.
Pharmacology:
Cefpodoxime is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic that works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to bacterial cell death. It is effective against a wide range of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.
Dosage & Administration:
Adults: 200 mg every 12 hours for 5-14 days, depending on the infection type and severity.
Children: Dosage varies based on weight; follow physician's prescription.
Should be taken with food to enhance absorption.
Interaction:
Antacids or H2 blockers may reduce the absorption of Cefpodoxime; administer them 2 hours apart.
Use cautiously with nephrotoxic drugs (e.g., aminoglycosides) to prevent kidney damage.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to Cefpodoxime, cephalosporins, or any formulation component.
Severe allergic reactions to penicillin antibiotics (cross-reactivity may occur).
Side Effects:
Common: Nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain, or headache.
Rare: Allergic reactions, including rash, itching, or anaphylaxis.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Safe for use during pregnancy if clearly needed.
Caution is advised during lactation; Cefpodoxime is excreted in small amounts in breast milk.
Precautions & Warnings:
Monitor kidney function in patients with renal impairment.
Long-term use may lead to overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms, including fungi.
Discontinue use if severe diarrhea or allergic reactions occur.
