Indications:
Major depressive disorder (MDD)
Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD)
Panic disorder
Social anxiety disorder
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)
Pharmacology:
ANDEP contains Escitalopram Oxalate, a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) that increases serotonin levels in the brain. This helps improve mood, reduce anxiety, and relieve symptoms of depression by restoring chemical balance.
Dosage:
Adults: Usually 10–20 mg once daily; maximum dose 20 mg/day
Dosage individualized according to patient response and tolerance
Start with low dose and gradually increase as advised by physician
Administration:
Taken orally with or without food
Should be taken at the same time daily
Swallow tablets whole, do not crush or chew
Interaction:
Avoid combining with MAO inhibitors, other SSRIs, or triptans due to risk of serotonin syndrome
May interact with anticoagulants, antiplatelets, and NSAIDs increasing bleeding risk
Inform doctor about all other medications
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to Escitalopram or any component
Concurrent use of MAO inhibitors
History of serotonin syndrome
Side Effects:
Common: Nausea, headache, insomnia, dry mouth, dizziness
Less common: Sexual dysfunction, sweating, fatigue
Rare: Suicidal thoughts, serotonin syndrome, seizures
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use only if benefits outweigh risks; consult doctor
Excreted in breast milk; breastfeeding caution advised
Precautions & Warnings:
Monitor for worsening depression or suicidal thoughts
Not recommended for children under 18 without specialist supervision
Avoid sudden discontinuation to prevent withdrawal symptoms
Caution in patients with liver/kidney impairment or seizures
