Indications:
Major Depressive Disorder (MDD)
Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD)
Panic Disorder
Social Anxiety Disorder
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
Pharmacology:
ANDEP contains Escitalopram Oxalate, a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI). It works by increasing serotonin levels in the brain, which helps improve mood, reduce anxiety, and relieve depressive symptoms.
Dosage:
Typical dose is 10-20 mg once daily
50 mg dosage is higher than usual and should only be used under strict medical supervision
Dosage individualized based on clinical response and tolerance
Administration:
Take orally with or without food
Take at the same time every day
Swallow tablet whole without crushing or chewing
Interaction:
Avoid concomitant use with MAO inhibitors, other SSRIs, or serotonergic agents due to risk of serotonin syndrome
Caution with anticoagulants, antiplatelets, and NSAIDs
Inform physician about all other medications
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to Escitalopram or related compounds
Concurrent treatment with MAO inhibitors
History of serotonin syndrome
Side Effects:
Common: Nausea, headache, insomnia, dry mouth, dizziness
Less common: Sexual dysfunction, increased sweating, fatigue
Rare but serious: Suicidal ideation, serotonin syndrome, seizures
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use only if benefits outweigh risks; consult doctor
Excreted in breast milk; breastfeeding caution advised
Precautions & Warnings:
Monitor for worsening depression or suicidal thoughts
Not approved for pediatric use without specialist advice
Avoid abrupt discontinuation to prevent withdrawal symptoms
Caution in patients with liver or kidney impairment
