Indications:
Prophylaxis and chronic treatment of asthma
Relief of symptoms of allergic rhinitis
Prevention of exercise-induced bronchoconstriction
Pharmacology:
ATHENA contains Montelukast Sodium, a leukotriene receptor antagonist that blocks leukotrienes responsible for inflammation and bronchoconstriction in asthma and allergies, thereby reducing symptoms.
Dosage:
Typical adult dose: 10 mg once daily in the evening
Pediatric doses vary and should follow doctor’s prescription
Do not exceed prescribed dose
Administration:
Oral administration, with or without food
Take at the same time each day for optimal effect
Swallow tablet whole, do not crush or chew
Interaction:
Few significant drug interactions
May interact with phenobarbital and rifampicin (reduce efficacy)
Inform doctor of all medications
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to Montelukast or any tablet components
Side Effects:
Common: Headache, abdominal pain, cough
Rare: Mood changes, allergic reactions, dizziness
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use only if clearly needed; consult healthcare provider
Safety in breastfeeding not fully established
Precautions & Warnings:
Not for relief of acute asthma attacks
Monitor for neuropsychiatric symptoms
Inform physician if symptoms worsen or new symptoms occur
