Indications:
HUMALOG KwikPen is indicated for:

The management of type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus

Rapid blood glucose control around mealtime

Often combined with long-acting insulin for full-day coverage
Pharmacology:
HUMALOG contains Insulin Lispro, a rapid-acting human insulin analog.
It has a quick onset and short duration, mimicking natural mealtime insulin secretion:

Onset: ~15 minutes
-
Peak: 30–90 minutes
-
Duration: 3–5 hours
Insulin Lispro is produced by recombinant DNA technology.
Dosage & Administration:
-
Administer subcutaneously within 15 minutes before or immediately after meals
-
Dose individualized based on blood glucose levels and doctor's advice
-
Each KwikPen delivers up to 60 units per injection in 1-unit increments
-
Rotate injection sites (abdomen, thigh, upper arm) to avoid lipodystrophy
-
Do not use in insulin pumps or mix with other insulins in the pen
Interaction:

Hypoglycemic risk increased with alcohol, beta-blockers, MAOIs, ACE inhibitors
-
Reduced efficacy with corticosteroids, oral contraceptives, diuretics, thyroid meds

Careful monitoring and dose adjustment may be necessary with interacting drugs
Contraindications:

Known hypersensitivity to Insulin Lispro or any component

Hypoglycemia at the time of intended administration
Side Effects:

Common: Hypoglycemia, redness/swelling at injection site, weight gain

Rare: Generalized allergic reactions, lipoatrophy/hypertrophy, insulin resistance
Pregnancy & Lactation:

Category B: Safe with proper glycemic control during pregnancy

Use during breastfeeding is generally safe, but monitor glucose levels closely
Precautions & Warnings:

Do not share pens between patients

Ensure correct insulin is being used (risk of mix-up with other insulins)

Monitor blood sugar regularly

Use with caution in elderly and in patients with renal or hepatic impairment

Do not freeze the pen or expose it to direct heat
