Indications:
NAPRYN SR 500 MG is indicated for the long-term management of rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and other chronic musculoskeletal disorders that require sustained pain and inflammation control.
Pharmacology:
Naproxen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that inhibits cyclooxygenase enzymes COX-1 and COX-2, reducing prostaglandin synthesis. The sustained-release (SR) formulation ensures prolonged therapeutic levels, providing extended pain relief with reduced dosing frequency.
Dosage & Administration:
Adults: 500–1000 mg once daily, depending on the severity of the condition. Should be taken with food to reduce gastrointestinal discomfort. Do not crush or chew the tablet.
Interaction:
May interact with anticoagulants, other NSAIDs, antihypertensives, diuretics, lithium, and methotrexate. Alcohol may increase the risk of GI side effects.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to Naproxen or other NSAIDs. Contraindicated in patients with peptic ulcer disease, active GI bleeding, or severe renal or hepatic impairment.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include nausea, heartburn, indigestion, headache, and dizziness. Serious risks involve gastrointestinal ulceration, bleeding, cardiovascular events, and renal impairment.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Avoid during the third trimester of pregnancy. Use only if clearly needed and under medical supervision during pregnancy or lactation.
Precautions & Warnings:
Use with caution in patients with a history of gastrointestinal disorders, cardiovascular disease, kidney or liver impairment. Prolonged use requires monitoring of renal, hepatic, and hematologic function.
Therapeutic Class:
Non-steroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs), Sustained Release Formulation
Storage Conditions:
Store in a cool, dry place below 30°C. Protect from moisture and direct sunlight. Keep out of reach of children.
