Indications:
HUMULIN 70/30 is indicated for:

Patients with type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus

Individuals needing both basal and prandial insulin coverage

Management of blood glucose levels pre- and post-meals
Pharmacology:
HUMULIN 70/30 is a premixed human insulin formulation that combines:
-
70% NPH insulin (isophane) – intermediate-acting insulin
-
30% Regular insulin (soluble) – short-acting insulin
Pharmacokinetics:

Onset of action: Within 30–60 minutes
-
Peak action: 2–12 hours
-
Duration: Up to 18–24 hours
Dosage & Administration:
-
Administer subcutaneously 30 minutes before a meal
-
Individualized dose based on physician's assessment and blood glucose level
-
Do not inject intravenously or intramuscularly
-
Use only the KwikPen device; do not reuse needles
-
Rotate injection sites (abdomen, thigh, upper arm) to prevent lipodystrophy
Interaction:
-
Increased hypoglycemic effect: MAOIs, beta-blockers, ACE inhibitors, alcohol
-
Reduced effect: corticosteroids, diuretics, thyroid hormones
-
Monitor blood sugar levels closely when used with interacting drugs
Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to human insulin or any pen components

Hypoglycemia (active episode)
Side Effects:

Common: Hypoglycemia, local injection site reactions, lipodystrophy

Rare: Allergic reactions, weight gain, peripheral edema, insulin resistance
Pregnancy & Lactation:

Safe during pregnancy with dose adjustment

Insulin does not cross the placenta

Can be used during breastfeeding under medical supervision
Precautions & Warnings:

Do not share pens between patients

Inspect the insulin before use—should be cloudy after rolling

Always carry a source of sugar for hypoglycemia

Avoid alcohol as it may increase hypoglycemia risk

Adjust dose in renal or hepatic impairment

Storage Conditions:

Unopened: Refrigerate at 2–8°C; do not freeze
