RESIDON 1 MG is indicated for the management of schizophrenia, treatment of manic or mixed episodes associated with bipolar disorder, and addressing irritability in autism spectrum disorders.
Pharmacology:
Risperidone is a second-generation antipsychotic that works by modulating the effects of dopamine and serotonin in the brain, helping to reduce psychotic symptoms and stabilize mood in affected individuals.
Dosage and Administration:
Schizophrenia: Initial dose is typically 1 mg once or twice daily, which can be titrated based on response.
Bipolar Disorder: Starting dose is usually 2-3 mg daily.
Administer with or without food, preferably at the same time each day.
Follow the dosage prescribed by your doctor.
Interaction:
Avoid using with other CNS depressants as it may increase sedative effects.
Can interact with antihypertensives, leading to enhanced hypotensive effects.
May interact with drugs affecting the cytochrome P450 enzyme system.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to Risperidone or any excipients in the formulation.
Severe liver or kidney impairment unless closely monitored by a physician.
Side Effects:
Common: Drowsiness, increased appetite, weight gain, and fatigue.
Serious: Extrapyramidal symptoms, tardive dyskinesia, and neuroleptic malignant syndrome (rare).
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use during pregnancy only if the benefits justify the risks.
Not recommended during breastfeeding as it may pass into breast milk and affect the infant.
Precautions & Warnings:
