Indications:
OXOFYLINE 400 MG is indicated for the treatment and management of:
Bronchial asthma
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
Chronic bronchitis
Other obstructive airway diseases
Pharmacology:
Doxofylline is a xanthine derivative that acts as a bronchodilator. It inhibits phosphodiesterase (PDE) enzymes, leading to increased intracellular cyclic AMP (cAMP), which relaxes bronchial smooth muscles. Doxofylline is better tolerated than theophylline, with fewer adverse effects.
Dosage & Administration:
Adults: 400 mg orally twice daily or as directed by a physician
Should be taken after meals with water
Do not crush or chew the tablet; swallow whole
Adjust dose in hepatic or renal impairment as needed
Interaction:
May potentiate effects of beta-agonists
Risk of toxicity when combined with other xanthine derivatives
Interacts with erythromycin, ciprofloxacin, cimetidine (can increase blood levels)
Alcohol may enhance CNS side effects
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to Doxofylline or other methylxanthines
Acute myocardial infarction
Severe hypotension
Active peptic ulcer disease
History of seizures
Side Effects:
Common: Nausea, vomiting, headache, restlessness
Less common: Palpitations, gastric irritation, dizziness
Rare: Seizures, cardiac arrhythmias (mainly in overdose)
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use in pregnancy only if clearly needed (consult physician)
Not recommended during breastfeeding unless clearly necessary
Precautions & Warnings:
Monitor patients with heart disease, epilepsy, liver or kidney dysfunction
Avoid in individuals with a history of seizure disorders
Smoking reduces the drug’s effectiveness
Long-term use requires periodic monitoring of serum levels in special populations
