Indications:
SANGRIL 450/50 Tablet is indicated for:
Medical termination of intrauterine pregnancy up to 49 days of gestation.
Cervical ripening and induction of labor in specific cases (as prescribed by a physician).
Pharmacology:
Mifepristone: A synthetic steroid that blocks the action of progesterone, essential for pregnancy maintenance. It induces detachment of the embryo and softens the cervix.
Misoprostol: A prostaglandin analog that causes uterine contractions to expel the uterine contents.
Dosage and Administration:
Day 1: One tablet of mifepristone (450 mg) orally.
Day 2 or 3: One tablet of misoprostol (50 mcg) orally or vaginally, as directed by the physician.
Follow-up within 14 days to confirm complete termination of pregnancy.
Interaction:
Avoid concurrent use with corticosteroids due to antagonistic effects on glucocorticoid activity.
May interact with anticoagulants, increasing bleeding risks.
Contraindications:
Confirmed or suspected ectopic pregnancy.
Chronic adrenal failure.
Hypersensitivity to mifepristone, misoprostol, or any prostaglandins.
Severe anemia or bleeding disorders.
Side Effects:
Common: Nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, diarrhea, and fatigue.
Rare but serious: Heavy vaginal bleeding, infection, or incomplete abortion.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Pregnancy: Not applicable as it is used for pregnancy termination.
Lactation: May pass into breast milk; avoid breastfeeding for a few days after administration.
Precautions & Warnings:
Must be administered under the supervision of a qualified healthcare provider.
Ensure the patient has access to emergency medical care in case of excessive bleeding or complications.
Confirm intrauterine pregnancy before administration.
