Indications:
LUVIO is indicated for the treatment of hyperlipidemia and mixed dyslipidemia to reduce elevated LDL cholesterol, total cholesterol, and triglycerides.
Pharmacology:
This combination contains:
Atorvastatin 60 mg (statin class): inhibits HMG-CoA reductase to lower cholesterol synthesis.
Ezetimibe 30 mg: inhibits intestinal cholesterol absorption.
Fenofibrate 6 mg: activates PPAR-alpha, increasing lipid metabolism.
Niacin 2 mg: reduces VLDL synthesis and increases HDL.
Omega-3 fatty acids 15 mg: reduces triglyceride synthesis.
Together, these agents provide a multi-modal lipid-lowering effect.
Dosage & Administration:
Usually one tablet once daily, with or without food. Dosage may vary based on lipid levels and doctor’s advice.
Interaction:
May interact with other lipid-lowering agents, anticoagulants, and certain antibiotics. Avoid grapefruit juice with statins.
Contraindications:
Contraindicated in active liver disease, severe renal impairment, hypersensitivity to any component, and during pregnancy and lactation.
Side Effects:
Possible side effects include muscle pain, liver enzyme elevation, gastrointestinal disturbances, flushing, and increased blood sugar.
