ROCAL M VITA 600+400 is indicated for:
Prevention and treatment of osteoporosis.
Maintenance of strong bone growth.
Proper functioning of heart, muscles, and nerves.
Nutritional supplementation during pregnancy and lactation.
Deficiency states of Calcium, Vitamin D3, Magnesium, Zinc, Copper, Manganese, and Boron.
Pharmacology:
This supplement provides essential nutrients for bone health:
Calcium Carbonate (600 mg): Essential for bone formation and maintenance.
Vitamin D3 (400 IU): Enhances calcium absorption and bone mineralization.
Magnesium (40 mg): Contributes to bone strength and rigidity.
Zinc (7.5 mg), Copper (1 mg), Manganese (1.8 mg), Boron (250 mcg): Trace elements that play significant roles in bone metabolism and overall skeletal health.
Dosage and Administration:
Adults: 1 tablet twice daily, preferably one in the morning and one in the evening, with meals.
Children (3-7 years): 1 effervescent tablet daily.
Children (7 years and older): 1 to 2 effervescent tablets daily.
Interaction:
Thiazide diuretics may increase the risk of hypercalcemia.
Concurrent use with digitalis glycosides requires caution due to potential cardiac effects.
Calcium can interfere with the absorption of tetracyclines, quinolones, bisphosphonates, and iron; it's advisable to allow a minimum interval of 4 hours between administrations.
Foods containing oxalic acid, phosphate, or phytinic acid may reduce calcium absorption.
Contraindications:
Hypercalcemia resulting from conditions like myeloma, bone metastases, or other malignant bone diseases.
Primary hyperparathyroidism and Vitamin D3 overdosage.
Severe renal failure.
Hypersensitivity to any of the tablet ingredients.
Osteoporosis due to prolonged immobilization, renal stones, severe hypercalciuria.
Side Effects:
Gastrointestinal disturbances: constipation, flatulence, nausea, gastric pain, diarrhea.
Occasional skin rash following Vitamin D3 supplementation.
Rare cases of hypercalciuria and hypercalcemia with long-term high-dose treatment.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Use under medical supervision during pregnancy and lactation.
Requirements for calcium and Vitamin D3 increase during these periods; supplementation should consider other dietary sources.
Overdosage of Vitamin D3 has shown teratogenic effects in animals; in humans, prolonged hypercalcemia can lead to complications in the newborn.
Precautions & Warnings:
Monitor plasma calcium levels and urinary calcium excretion in patients with mild to moderate renal failure or hypercalciuria.
In patients with a history of renal stones, assess urinary calcium excretion to exclude hypercalciuria.
Long-term treatment requires monitoring of serum and urinary calcium levels and kidney function; adjust or discontinue treatment if necessary.
