ROCAL O 400MG is indicated for:
Prevention and treatment of calcium deficiency.
Management of osteoporosis, osteomalacia, rickets, latent tetany.
Postmenopausal, senile, juvenile, and drug-induced osteoporosis.
Supplementation during pregnancy and lactation.
Conditions like hypoparathyroidism, premenstrual syndrome (PMS), and hip joint plastic surgery.
Pharmacology:
Calcium Orotate combines calcium with orotic acid, enhancing calcium transport through cellular membranes, facilitating intracellular uptake, particularly in bones. It supports healthy cartilage maintenance and is involved in DNA and RNA synthesis.
Dosage and Administration:
Adults: 2-3 tablets daily with meals or as directed by a physician.
Children: As prescribed by a physician.
Interaction:
Calcium Orotate may decrease the absorption of bisphosphonates, quinolone antibiotics, tetracycline antibiotics, levothyroxine, phenytoin, and tiludronate disodium.
Thiazide diuretics may increase the risk of hypercalcemia.
Antacids containing aluminum or magnesium can increase urinary calcium excretion.
Mineral oil and stimulant laxatives may decrease calcium absorption.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to Calcium Orotate.
Hypercalcemia or hypercalciuria.
Severe renal impairment or kidney stones.
Hyperparathyroidism.
Severe dehydration.
Side Effects:
Common: Abdominal bloating, swelling.
Less common: Loss of appetite, upset stomach, constipation, nausea, vomiting, unusual weight loss, increased thirst or urination, weakness, fatigue, kidney stone formation.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Calcium requirements increase during pregnancy and lactation. Supplementation with Calcium Orotate can help meet these needs and may reduce the risk of pregnancy-related hypertension.
Precautions & Warnings:
Use with caution in patients with kidney disease, kidney stones, achlorhydria, heart disease, pancreatic disease, sarcoidosis, or malabsorption syndrome.
Monitor calcium levels to avoid hypercalcemia.
