Indications:
ESITA 5 MG is indicated for:
Major depressive disorder (MDD)
Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD)
Panic disorder
Social anxiety disorder
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (off-label)
Pharmacology:
ESITA contains Escitalopram, a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI). It works by increasing serotonin levels in the brain through inhibition of its reuptake, improving symptoms of depression and anxiety.
Dosage & Administration:
Usual Adult Dose (initial or maintenance): 5 mg once daily, particularly useful for elderly or patients sensitive to side effects.
May be increased by physician depending on response.
Administration: Orally, with or without food, at the same time daily.
Do not stop abruptly.
Interaction:
Avoid with MAO inhibitors and serotonergic drugs (e.g., SSRIs, SNRIs, triptans). May increase bleeding risk with NSAIDs or anticoagulants. Risk of QT prolongation when combined with QT-prolonging drugs.
Contraindications:
Known hypersensitivity to Escitalopram
Use with MAO inhibitors or within 14 days of stopping an MAOI
Congenital long QT syndrome
Side Effects:
Common: Nausea, fatigue, dizziness, dry mouth, somnolence
Less common: Anxiety, insomnia, sexual dysfunction
Rare: Serotonin syndrome, suicidal thoughts, hyponatremia, QT prolongation
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use only when necessary during pregnancy. Escitalopram may pass into breast milk; caution advised during breastfeeding.
Precautions & Warnings:
Monitor patients for suicidal ideation, especially during initial therapy. Use with caution in patients with seizure disorders, hepatic or renal impairment, or bipolar disorder. Taper off slowly when discontinuing.
