Indications:
Amdocal 10mg is indicated for:
Hypertension (high blood pressure)
Chronic stable angina
Vasospastic (Prinzmetal's) angina
Prevention of cardiovascular events in hypertensive patients at risk
Pharmacology:
Amlodipine is a long-acting calcium channel blocker that inhibits the influx of calcium ions into vascular smooth muscle and cardiac muscle. This relaxation of blood vessels reduces systemic vascular resistance and lowers blood pressure. It also improves oxygen delivery to the heart in angina patients.
Dosage:
Adults: 5–10 mg once daily
Elderly or liver-impaired patients: Start with 5 mg/day
Maximum dose: 10 mg once daily
Dose should be individualized based on patient response.
Administration:
Take orally with or without food
Swallow whole with water
Take at the same time each day
Interaction:
May interact with simvastatin, diltiazem, CYP3A4 inhibitors
Caution with other antihypertensives (may increase hypotension risk)
Grapefruit juice may increase its plasma concentration
Contraindications:
Known hypersensitivity to amlodipine
Severe hypotension
Cardiogenic shock
Aortic stenosis
Side Effects:
Common: Swelling of legs/ankles, dizziness, flushing, fatigue
Less common: Palpitations, nausea, abdominal pain
Rare: Gingival hyperplasia, liver enzyme elevation
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Pregnancy Category C
Use only if the potential benefit justifies the risk
Caution advised during lactation
Precautions & Warnings:
Monitor blood pressure regularly
Use cautiously in patients with heart failure or liver impairment
May cause postural hypotension or dizziness—rise slowly from sitting
