Indications:
FIXOLIN 200MG is indicated for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus to improve glycemic control, either as monotherapy or in combination with other antidiabetic agents.
Pharmacology:
Metformin decreases hepatic glucose production, decreases intestinal absorption of glucose, and improves insulin sensitivity by increasing peripheral glucose uptake and utilization.
Dosage:
The usual starting dose is 500 mg twice daily or as prescribed by the physician. Dosage may be adjusted based on patient response.
Administration:
Oral administration with meals to reduce gastrointestinal side effects.
Interaction:
May interact with contrast agents, cimetidine, diuretics, and other antidiabetic drugs. Inform your doctor about all medications.
Contraindications:
Contraindicated in patients with renal impairment, metabolic acidosis, or hypersensitivity to Metformin.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include gastrointestinal upset, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and rarely lactic acidosis.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use only if clearly needed; consult physician before use during pregnancy and lactation.
Precautions & Warnings:
Monitor renal function regularly. Discontinue before radiologic studies involving iodinated contrast.
