ARLIN 600MG Tablet is indicated for:
Severe respiratory tract infections such as pneumonia, bronchitis, and sinusitis.
Skin and soft tissue infections, including cellulitis and abscesses.
Complicated urinary tract infections (UTIs).
Pharyngitis and tonsillitis.
Early Lyme disease treatment.
Postoperative prophylaxis in high-risk patients.
Pharmacology:
Arlin contains Cefuroxime, a second-generation cephalosporin antibiotic:
It inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to bacterial cell death.
Effective against beta-lactamase-producing strains of bacteria.
Covers a wide spectrum of gram-positive and gram-negative pathogens.
Dosage & Administration:
Adults: 600 mg once daily or in divided doses, depending on the severity of the infection.
Children (>12 years): Adjusted doses based on weight or physician recommendation.
Take orally with food for better absorption.
Interaction:
Co-administration with probenecid increases cefuroxime plasma levels.
Avoid using with antacids or proton pump inhibitors, which may reduce bioavailability.
Contraindications:
Known hypersensitivity to cefuroxime or other cephalosporins.
History of severe reactions to penicillin or beta-lactam antibiotics.
Side Effects:
Common: Diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal discomfort.
Rare: Allergic reactions, anaphylaxis, or superinfection.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Pregnancy Category B: Safe if prescribed by a physician.
Cefuroxime is excreted in small amounts in breast milk; caution is advised.
Precautions & Warnings:
Monitor renal function in patients with renal impairment.
Avoid abrupt discontinuation; complete the prescribed course.
Observe for signs of superinfection during prolonged use.
