Indications:
Progavi is indicated for the prevention and treatment of vitamin D3 deficiency, rickets, osteomalacia, and to support healthy bone formation and calcium absorption in infants and children.
Pharmacology:
Progavi contains cholecalciferol (vitamin D3), a fat-soluble vitamin essential for calcium and phosphorus absorption. It helps in the mineralization of bones and supports the immune system.
Dosage:
Infants: 400 IU (typically 1 drop daily) or as prescribed
Children: As directed by the physician based on serum vitamin D levels
Do not exceed recommended dose without medical advice.
Administration:
Shake well before use. Can be mixed with milk or food. Administer directly into the mouth using a dropper or spoon.
Interaction:
May interact with antiepileptic drugs, corticosteroids, and certain cholesterol-lowering medications. Calcium supplements taken concurrently may increase the risk of hypercalcemia.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to vitamin D3, hypercalcemia, hypervitaminosis D, or severe renal impairment.
Side Effects:
Usually well tolerated. Rarely may cause nausea, vomiting, constipation, or symptoms of vitamin D toxicity (hypercalcemia).
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Safe if taken as per recommended dietary allowance. High doses should be avoided unless prescribed.
Precautions & Warnings:
Regular monitoring of calcium and vitamin D levels is advised in long-term use. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use if the suspension appears discolored or expired.
