Hypertension (high blood pressure)
Stable chronic heart failure
Prevention of angina pectoris
Pharmacology
Bisoprolol Fumarate is a selective beta-1 adrenergic receptor blocker. It decreases heart rate, cardiac output, and blood pressure by inhibiting the effects of adrenaline on the heart, thereby reducing the heart's workload and oxygen demand.
Dosage and Administration
Initial dose: 2.5 mg once daily, preferably in the morning.
Dose adjustment may be required based on the patient's response.
Should be taken with or without food, with a glass of water.
Interaction
May interact with other beta-blockers, calcium channel blockers, and antiarrhythmic drugs.
Use with caution alongside insulin or oral antidiabetic agents, as it may mask hypoglycemia symptoms.
Contraindications
Severe bradycardia
Cardiogenic shock
Overt heart failure without treatment
Hypersensitivity to Bisoprolol or any excipient in the formulation
Side Effects
Common: Fatigue, dizziness, slow heart rate (bradycardia)
Rare: Shortness of breath, cold extremities, gastrointestinal disturbances
Pregnancy & Lactation
Use during pregnancy only if clearly necessary and under medical supervision.
Not recommended during breastfeeding unless advised by a doctor.
Precautions & Warnings
Abrupt discontinuation may lead to worsening of heart conditions; taper dose gradually.
Use with caution in patients with diabetes, asthma, or chronic respiratory disorders.
