Indications
LOSPAN 10 mg is indicated for:

Treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure)
Reducing the risk of stroke in patients with high blood pressure and left ventricular hypertrophy
Kidney protection in type 2 diabetic patients with proteinuria
Management of heart failure in patients intolerant to ACE inhibitors

Pharmacology
LOSPAN contains Losartan Potassium, an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB). It blocks the binding of angiotensin II to AT1 receptors, preventing vasoconstriction and aldosterone secretion. This results in vasodilation, reduced blood pressure, and decreased workload on the heart and kidneys.

Dosage & Administration

Usual adult dose: 25–100 mg daily in single or divided doses
Initial dose: 10 mg may be considered for elderly or those with liver impairment
Dosage should be adjusted based on response
Can be taken with or without food

Interaction

May enhance the effects of other antihypertensive drugs
Increased risk of hyperkalemia with potassium supplements or potassium-sparing diuretics
NSAIDs may reduce antihypertensive effect
May interact with lithium and increase its toxicity

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to Losartan or any component of the product
Pregnancy (especially in 2nd and 3rd trimester)
Severe hepatic impairment

Side Effects

Common: Dizziness, fatigue, nasal congestion, back pain
Less common: Hyperkalemia, hypotension, kidney dysfunction, dry cough (less than ACE inhibitors)

Pregnancy & Lactation

Pregnancy: Contraindicated. Can cause injury or death to the developing fetus.
Lactation: Not recommended. Safety in breastfeeding is not established.
