Indications
INFORMET XR 500 mg is indicated for anaerobic bacterial infections and protozoal infections such as amoebiasis, giardiasis, and trichomoniasis.
Pharmacology
Metronidazole in extended-release form disrupts DNA synthesis in anaerobic bacteria and protozoa, leading to cell death and infection control over a prolonged period.
Dosage & Administration
Usually taken once or twice daily, depending on doctor's advice. Tablets should be swallowed whole with water and not crushed or chewed.
Interaction
Avoid alcohol during treatment. May interact with warfarin, lithium, and other liver-metabolized drugs.
Contraindications
Not suitable for patients allergic to metronidazole, during the first trimester of pregnancy, or with blood disorders.
Side Effects
Possible side effects include nausea, metallic taste, headache, dizziness, and gastrointestinal upset.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Avoid during pregnancy unless necessary. Use with caution during breastfeeding after consulting a doctor.
Precautions & Warnings
Alcohol should be avoided during treatment and for 48 hours after. Monitor for neurological symptoms.

Storage Conditions
Store in a cool, dry place below 25°C, away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
