Indications:
Proceptin is indicated for the treatment of major depressive disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), panic disorder, bulimia nervosa, and premenstrual dysphoric disorder.
Pharmacology:
Proceptin contains fluoxetine, a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) that works by increasing the level of serotonin in the brain, which helps improve mood, emotion, and sleep.
Dosage:
Depression & OCD: 20 mg once daily, can be increased gradually.
Panic Disorder: Start with 10 mg/day, increase to 20 mg/day after 1 week.
Dosage should always be determined by a physician.
Administration:
Take orally with or without food, preferably at the same time each day. Swallow the capsule whole.
Interaction:
May interact with MAO inhibitors, other SSRIs, NSAIDs, anticoagulants, and certain antipsychotics. Always inform your doctor about all medications being taken.
Contraindications:
Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to fluoxetine or those taking MAO inhibitors or thioridazine.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include nausea, headache, insomnia, dry mouth, fatigue, and nervousness. Rare but serious effects include suicidal thoughts, serotonin syndrome, and seizures.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use only if the potential benefits justify the potential risk to the fetus. Caution advised during lactation as fluoxetine is excreted in breast milk.
Precautions & Warnings:
Monitor closely for worsening depression or suicidal thoughts. Use with caution in patients with liver impairment or seizure disorders.
