Indications:
Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus
Adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control
Especially beneficial for overweight patients and those with cardiovascular risk
Pharmacology:
Dapagliflozin: A sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor that reduces blood glucose by promoting urinary glucose excretion.
Metformin: A biguanide that decreases hepatic glucose production and improves insulin sensitivity, thus lowering blood sugar levels.
Dosage:
Typically 1 tablet daily or as prescribed by the physician
Dose adjustment may be needed based on blood glucose levels and tolerance
Administration:
Oral administration with food to reduce gastrointestinal side effects
Swallow whole with sufficient water
Interaction:
Caution with other hypoglycemic agents (e.g., insulin, sulfonylureas) due to risk of hypoglycemia
Potential interaction with diuretics, ACE inhibitors, and alcohol
Contraindications:
Type 1 Diabetes
Diabetic ketoacidosis
