Pharmacology
MUCOSOL contains Ambroxol Hydrochloride, a mucolytic agent that works by breaking down acid mucopolysaccharide fibers in mucus, making it thinner and easier to expel. It enhances mucus transport and relieves chest congestion.
Dosage & Administration
Adults: 10 ml (2 teaspoons) 2–3 times daily
Children (6–12 years): 5 ml 2–3 times daily
Children (2–5 years): 2.5 ml 2–3 times daily
Should be taken after meals
Shake the bottle well before use
Interaction
May increase the concentration of antibiotics like amoxicillin, cefuroxime, erythromycin
Avoid use with antitussives (cough suppressants), which may hinder mucus clearance
Contraindications
Known hypersensitivity to ambroxol or any ingredient in the formulation
Severe renal or hepatic impairment (use with caution)
Side Effects
Nausea, vomiting, abdominal discomfort
Dry mouth or throat
Rare: allergic reactions like rash or itching
Pregnancy & Lactation
Not recommended during the first trimester of pregnancy
Use only if clearly needed under physician’s supervision in later stages or during lactation
Precautions & Warnings
Not suitable for dry (non-productive) cough
Adequate hydration is advised to help mucus thinning
Consult a doctor if symptoms persist beyond a few days
