Indications:
GLIPITA M 50/1000MG is indicated for treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus, particularly when diet, exercise, and monotherapy are insufficient to achieve adequate glycemic control.
Pharmacology:
GLIPITA M combines two antidiabetic agents: glipizide, a sulfonylurea that stimulates pancreatic insulin secretion, and metformin, a biguanide that decreases hepatic glucose production and improves insulin sensitivity.
Dosage:
Dosage must be individualized. Typically taken twice daily with meals to reduce gastrointestinal side effects. Dose adjustments depend on glycemic response and patient tolerance.
Administration:
Oral use, swallowed whole with water preferably during or after meals to minimize GI upset.
Interaction:
Possible interactions with other antidiabetics, diuretics, corticosteroids, beta-blockers, and alcohol which can affect blood glucose control.
Contraindications:
Type 1 diabetes mellitus
Diabetic ketoacidosis
Severe renal or hepatic impairment
Hypersensitivity to glipizide, metformin, or their excipients
Side Effects:
Hypoglycemia (due to glipizide)
Gastrointestinal disturbances (due to metformin) like nausea, vomiting, diarrhea
Weight gain
Rare lactic acidosis (metformin)
Allergic reactions
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use only if clearly needed under medical supervision. Limited safety data available; insulin preferred during pregnancy.
Precautions & Warnings:
Monitor blood glucose and renal function regularly
Avoid alcohol consumption
Use caution in patients with liver or kidney disease
Stop before surgery or contrast imaging involving iodine to prevent lactic acidosis
Therapeutic Class:
Oral hypoglycemic agent – Combination of sulfonylurea and biguanide
Storage Conditions:
Store in a cool, dry place below 30°C, away from moisture and direct sunlight. Keep out of reach of children.
