Indications
TELMACAL 10/40 MG is indicated for treatment of essential hypertension, especially in patients who require combination therapy for better blood pressure control.
Pharmacology
This combination contains Amlodipine, a calcium channel blocker that relaxes blood vessels, and Telmisartan, an angiotensin II receptor blocker that prevents vasoconstriction. Together, they work synergistically to lower blood pressure effectively.
Dosage
Typically, one tablet once daily, adjusted according to patient response and physician’s advice.
Administration
Orally with or without food, preferably at the same time each day for consistent therapeutic effect.
Interaction
May interact with other antihypertensives, CYP3A4 inhibitors, NSAIDs, lithium, and potassium supplements. Monitoring blood pressure and kidney function is essential.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to Amlodipine or Telmisartan, pregnancy, severe hepatic or renal impairment, and aortic stenosis.
Side Effects
Possible side effects include dizziness, swelling (edema), headache, flushing, fatigue, and rarely hypotension.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Contraindicated during pregnancy. Use with caution during lactation under medical supervision.
Precautions & Warnings
Monitor blood pressure, renal and liver function regularly. Use cautiously in patients with heart failure or severe aortic stenosis.
