ARLIN 400MG Tablet is indicated for:
-
Treatment of respiratory tract infections, including sinusitis, bronchitis, and pneumonia.
-
Skin and soft tissue infections, such as cellulitis and impetigo.
-
Urinary tract infections (UTIs).
-
Pharyngitis and tonsillitis caused by susceptible bacteria.
-
Early Lyme disease and its associated symptoms.
Pharmacology:
Arlin contains Cefuroxime, a second-generation cephalosporin antibiotic:
-
It works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, which leads to bacterial lysis and death.

It has broad-spectrum activity effective against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.

Resistant to beta-lactamase enzymes, making it effective against penicillin-resistant bacteria.
Dosage & Administration:

Adults: 250-500 mg twice daily; for severe infections, the dose may go up to 1,000 mg.

Children (>12 years): Dose as per physician's recommendation, typically lower than adult doses.

Administer orally after meals to improve absorption and reduce gastrointestinal discomfort.
Interaction:

Probenecid increases plasma concentrations of cefuroxime.

Avoid combining with antacids or proton pump inhibitors, which may reduce absorption.
Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to cefuroxime, other cephalosporins, or penicillins.

Patients with a history of severe allergic reactions to beta-lactam antibiotics.
Side Effects:

Common: Diarrhea, nausea, headache, abdominal pain.

Rare: Hypersensitivity reactions, pseudomembranous colitis, or anaphylaxis.
Pregnancy & Lactation:

Pregnancy Category B: Generally safe under physician supervision.

Excreted in small quantities in breast milk; use with caution during breastfeeding.
Precautions & Warnings:

Prolonged use may lead to superinfections or Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea.

Use cautiously in patients with renal impairment or history of gastrointestinal diseases.

Ensure completion of the prescribed course to prevent antibiotic resistance.
