ARLIN 400MG Tablet is indicated for:

  • Treatment of respiratory tract infections, including sinusitis, bronchitis, and pneumonia.

  • Skin and soft tissue infections, such as cellulitis and impetigo.

  • Urinary tract infections (UTIs).

  • Pharyngitis and tonsillitis caused by susceptible bacteria.

  • Early Lyme disease and its associated symptoms.

Pharmacology:
Arlin contains Cefuroxime, a second-generation cephalosporin antibiotic:

  • It works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, which leads to bacterial lysis and death.

  • It has broad-spectrum activity effective against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.

  • Resistant to beta-lactamase enzymes, making it effective against penicillin-resistant bacteria.

Dosage & Administration:

  • Adults: 250-500 mg twice daily; for severe infections, the dose may go up to 1,000 mg.

  • Children (>12 years): Dose as per physician's recommendation, typically lower than adult doses.

  • Administer orally after meals to improve absorption and reduce gastrointestinal discomfort.

Interaction:

  • Probenecid increases plasma concentrations of cefuroxime.

  • Avoid combining with antacids or proton pump inhibitors, which may reduce absorption.

Contraindications:

  • Hypersensitivity to cefuroxime, other cephalosporins, or penicillins.

  • Patients with a history of severe allergic reactions to beta-lactam antibiotics.

Side Effects:

  • Common: Diarrhea, nausea, headache, abdominal pain.

  • Rare: Hypersensitivity reactions, pseudomembranous colitis, or anaphylaxis.

Pregnancy & Lactation:

  • Pregnancy Category B: Generally safe under physician supervision.

  • Excreted in small quantities in breast milk; use with caution during breastfeeding.

Precautions & Warnings:

  • Prolonged use may lead to superinfections or Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea.

  • Use cautiously in patients with renal impairment or history of gastrointestinal diseases.

  • Ensure completion of the prescribed course to prevent antibiotic resistance.

Therapeutic Class:
Second-generation cephalosporins.

Storage Conditions:

  • Store in a cool, dry place below 25°C.

  • Protect from light and moisture.

  • Keep out of reach of children.
