Indications:
DECOMIT HFA 100 is indicated for the maintenance treatment of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in patients requiring inhaled corticosteroids.
Pharmacology:
DECOMIT HFA 100 contains Budesonide, a glucocorticoid steroid with potent anti-inflammatory properties. It works locally in the lungs to reduce inflammation and prevent asthma symptoms.
Dosage:
Adults and adolescents (12 years and older): 1-2 inhalations twice daily or as directed by a physician.
Children (6-11 years): Dose should be determined by a physician.
Administration:
The inhaler should be shaken well before use. Patients should exhale fully, place the mouthpiece into the mouth, and inhale deeply while pressing the canister.
Interaction:
Budesonide may interact with CYP3A4 inhibitors like ketoconazole, ritonavir, or clarithromycin, which can increase its systemic exposure.
Contraindications:
Contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to budesonide or any component of the formulation.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include hoarseness, throat irritation, and oral candidiasis. Rinsing the mouth after use reduces the risk of infection.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed. Budesonide may pass into breast milk, but considered safe when inhaled. Consult a doctor before use.
Precautions & Warnings:
Not intended for relief of acute asthma attacks. Use with caution in patients with active or quiescent tuberculosis infections, fungal, bacterial, or viral infections of the respiratory tract.
Therapeutic Class:
Inhaled corticosteroids
