Indications:
BILEXA (BEXICAP) 100/25 is indicated for:
Symptomatic management of Parkinson's disease.
Controlling motor symptoms such as bradykinesia, tremors, and rigidity.
Reducing the "off" periods in Parkinson’s disease patients receiving Levodopa therapy.
Pharmacology:
Levodopa (100 mg): A precursor of dopamine that crosses the blood-brain barrier and is converted into dopamine to replenish depleted levels in Parkinson’s patients.
Carbidopa (25 mg): An inhibitor of the enzyme dopa-decarboxylase, which prevents the peripheral conversion of Levodopa to dopamine, ensuring higher availability in the brain.
Dosage and Administration:
Adults: 1 capsule 2-3 times daily or as prescribed by a physician.
Take with or shortly after meals to reduce gastrointestinal side effects.
Interaction:
Avoid with non-selective MAO inhibitors due to the risk of hypertensive crises.
Protein-rich diets may reduce Levodopa absorption.
Antihypertensives and antipsychotics may interact with this medication.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to Levodopa, Carbidopa, or any component of the formulation.
Narrow-angle glaucoma or severe psychiatric disorders.
Use in combination with non-selective MAO inhibitors.
Side Effects:
Common: Nausea, vomiting, dizziness, or orthostatic hypotension.
Rare: Hallucinations, dyskinesia, or confusion.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Not recommended during pregnancy unless the potential benefits outweigh the risks.
Caution is advised for lactating mothers, as the drug may affect the infant.
Precautions & Warnings:
Monitor for signs of dyskinesia or psychiatric disturbances.
Gradually adjust the dose to avoid side effects.
Avoid abrupt discontinuation to prevent withdrawal symptoms.
