Indications:
BILEXA (BEXICAP) 100/25 is indicated for:

  • Symptomatic management of Parkinson's disease.

  • Controlling motor symptoms such as bradykinesia, tremors, and rigidity.

  • Reducing the "off" periods in Parkinson’s disease patients receiving Levodopa therapy.

Pharmacology:

  • Levodopa (100 mg): A precursor of dopamine that crosses the blood-brain barrier and is converted into dopamine to replenish depleted levels in Parkinson’s patients.

  • Carbidopa (25 mg): An inhibitor of the enzyme dopa-decarboxylase, which prevents the peripheral conversion of Levodopa to dopamine, ensuring higher availability in the brain.

Dosage and Administration:

  • Adults: 1 capsule 2-3 times daily or as prescribed by a physician.

  • Take with or shortly after meals to reduce gastrointestinal side effects.

Interaction:

  • Avoid with non-selective MAO inhibitors due to the risk of hypertensive crises.

  • Protein-rich diets may reduce Levodopa absorption.

  • Antihypertensives and antipsychotics may interact with this medication.

Contraindications:

  • Hypersensitivity to Levodopa, Carbidopa, or any component of the formulation.

  • Narrow-angle glaucoma or severe psychiatric disorders.

  • Use in combination with non-selective MAO inhibitors.

Side Effects:

  • Common: Nausea, vomiting, dizziness, or orthostatic hypotension.

  • Rare: Hallucinations, dyskinesia, or confusion.

Pregnancy & Lactation:

  • Not recommended during pregnancy unless the potential benefits outweigh the risks.

  • Caution is advised for lactating mothers, as the drug may affect the infant.

Precautions & Warnings:

  • Monitor for signs of dyskinesia or psychiatric disturbances.

  • Gradually adjust the dose to avoid side effects.

  • Avoid abrupt discontinuation to prevent withdrawal symptoms.
