Indications:
Nitrosol 200MD is indicated for the acute relief of an attack or prophylaxis of angina pectoris due to coronary artery disease.
Pharmacology:
Nitrosol contains Nitroglycerin, which is a nitrate that relaxes vascular smooth muscles, leading to vasodilation. It reduces myocardial oxygen demand by decreasing preload and afterload, thereby relieving chest pain rapidly when administered sublingually.
Dosage:
At the onset of chest pain, 1 or 2 sprays should be administered under the tongue. Maximum of 3 sprays within 15 minutes. Always follow physician's instructions.
Administration:
Hold the container upright and spray under the tongue without inhaling. Do not swallow immediately. Sit down while administering to avoid dizziness.
Interaction:
Avoid concurrent use with phosphodiesterase inhibitors (e.g., sildenafil) due to risk of severe hypotension. May interact with alcohol and other antihypertensive drugs.
Contraindications:
Contraindicated in patients with severe hypotension, increased intracranial pressure, severe anemia, and hypersensitivity to nitrates.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include headache, dizziness, flushing, and hypotension. Rarely, it may cause fainting or allergic reactions.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use only if clearly needed and prescribed by a physician. Safety during breastfeeding has not been established.
Precautions & Warnings:
Use cautiously in patients with low blood pressure, recent head trauma, or glaucoma. Sit or lie down during administration to prevent sudden blood pressure drop.
