AZITHROCIN 30ML Suspension is indicated for the treatment of:
Respiratory tract infections such as pharyngitis, tonsillitis, and bronchitis.
Skin and soft tissue infections caused by susceptible bacteria.
Otitis media (middle ear infection) in children.
Certain bacterial infections like sinusitis and pneumonia.
Pharmacology:
AZITHROCIN Suspension contains Azithromycin, a macrolide antibiotic.
It inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit, effectively stopping bacterial growth.
Azithromycin has a long half-life, allowing for once-daily dosing and shorter treatment courses.
Dosage & Administration:
Children: 10 mg/kg body weight on the first day, followed by 5 mg/kg body weight once daily for the next 4 days.
Should be taken 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal.
Shake well before use.
Interaction:
Avoid co-administration with antacids containing aluminum or magnesium, as they may reduce Azithromycin absorption.
Use cautiously with other antibiotics to avoid interactions.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to Azithromycin or other macrolide antibiotics.
Severe liver dysfunction.
Side Effects:
Common: Nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain, vomiting.
Rare: Rash, headache, dizziness, or allergic reactions.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Pregnancy: Should be used only if clearly needed and under medical supervision (Category B).
Lactation: Caution is advised as small amounts may pass into breast milk.
Precautions & Warnings:
Use cautiously in patients with hepatic impairment or arrhythmias.
Ensure the full course is completed to prevent antibiotic resistance.
