Indications:
Rostil SR 200mg is indicated for the treatment of respiratory tract infections (bronchitis, tonsillitis, pharyngitis), skin and soft tissue infections, and some sexually transmitted diseases caused by susceptible microorganisms.
Pharmacology:
Roxithromycin is a semi-synthetic macrolide antibiotic. It inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit, preventing bacterial cell growth. The sustained-release formulation ensures prolonged therapeutic levels.
Dosage:
Adults: 1 tablet (200mg) once daily, preferably at the same time each day.
Dosage may vary based on infection severity and patient's response.
Administration:
Take orally with water, at least 15 minutes before or 3 hours after meals. Do not crush or chew the tablet.
Interaction:
May interact with warfarin, cyclosporine, theophylline, and digoxin. Inform your doctor of all ongoing medications.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to Roxithromycin or other macrolide antibiotics. Not recommended in patients with severe liver impairment.
Side Effects:
Common: Nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea.
Rare: Liver enzyme elevation, allergic rash, dizziness.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed. Caution is advised during breastfeeding.
Precautions & Warnings:
Caution in patients with liver dysfunction. Complete the full course of therapy to prevent antibiotic resistance.
