Indications:
Neofloxin Suspension is indicated for the treatment of pediatric bacterial infections including lower respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, gastrointestinal infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and typhoid fever caused by ciprofloxacin-sensitive organisms.
Pharmacology:
Ciprofloxacin is a broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone antibiotic that works by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, thereby disrupting DNA replication and leading to bacterial death. It is bactericidal in nature.
Dosage:
Children (1–17 years): 10–20 mg/kg/day divided every 12 hours depending on severity of infection. Maximum daily dose should not exceed 750 mg. Duration and dose to be determined by physician.
Administration:
Shake the bottle well before each use. Administer with a measuring spoon or cup. Can be taken with or without food but avoid dairy and calcium-rich products during administration.
Interaction:
May interact with antacids, iron, multivitamins, calcium, theophylline, and NSAIDs. Should not be used concurrently with tizanidine.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to ciprofloxacin or other quinolones. History of tendon disorders related to quinolone use. Avoid in viral infections.
Side Effects:
Possible side effects include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, rash, and headache. Rare effects include tendon rupture, hypersensitivity reactions, and QT prolongation.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Not intended for pregnant women. Use in lactating mothers only if clearly needed and prescribed.
Precautions & Warnings:
Use with caution in children with CNS disorders. Avoid exposure to sunlight during treatment. Do not exceed the prescribed dose or duration.
Therapeutic Class:
Fluoroquinolone group of antibiotics (Pediatric use)
Storage Conditions:
Store below 30°C. Protect from light and moisture. Keep the bottle tightly closed. Discard any unused portion after 14 days of opening.
