Indications:
DECOMIT HFA 50mcg is indicated for the maintenance treatment of mild asthma and for the prevention of bronchial asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) symptoms.
Pharmacology:
It contains Budesonide, a potent corticosteroid with anti-inflammatory action. Budesonide reduces airway swelling, mucus production, and hyperresponsiveness of the airways, providing symptom control and prevention.
Dosage:
Adults and children (above 6 years): 1-2 inhalations twice daily.
Dose should be individualized and adjusted based on response.
Always follow physician’s direction.
Administration:
Shake well before each use. Inhale deeply through the mouth while pressing the inhaler canister. Rinse the mouth with water after each use to prevent oral thrush.
Interaction:
Avoid co-administration with strong CYP3A4 inhibitors like ketoconazole, ritonavir, and itraconazole as they may increase systemic exposure to budesonide.
Contraindications:
Known hypersensitivity to budesonide or any components of the inhaler. Not recommended for use in patients with untreated fungal, bacterial, or viral infections.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include throat irritation, coughing, hoarseness, and oral candidiasis. Rarely, systemic effects like adrenal suppression may occur with prolonged use.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Should only be used if benefits outweigh risks. Budesonide is generally considered safe during lactation in inhaled form but must be used under medical advice.
Precautions & Warnings:
Not suitable for acute asthma attacks. Should be used with caution in patients with tuberculosis, herpes simplex eye infections, and other respiratory infections. Monitor long-term use in children for growth suppression.
Therapeutic Class:
Inhaled corticosteroids (ICS)
Storage Conditions:
Store below 30°C. Keep away from direct sunlight, heat, and moisture. Do not puncture or burn the canister even when empty. Keep out of reach of children.
