ARIXON 2GM Injection IV is indicated for:
Treatment of severe bacterial infections caused by susceptible microorganisms.
Respiratory tract infections such as pneumonia and bronchitis.
Skin and soft tissue infections.
Urinary tract infections (UTIs).
Bone and joint infections.
Abdominal infections, including peritonitis.
Septicemia and bacterial meningitis.
Surgical prophylaxis to prevent postoperative infections.
Pharmacology:
Arixon (Ceftriaxone) is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic:
It disrupts bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to penicillin-binding proteins, leading to bacterial cell death.
Demonstrates excellent activity against a wide range of gram-positive and gram-negative organisms.
Dosage & Administration:
Adults: 1-2 gm once daily, depending on the severity and type of infection. For life-threatening infections, up to 4 gm daily may be used.
Children: Dose based on weight, typically 20-80 mg/kg/day.
Administration: Administered via intravenous (IV) infusion over 30 minutes.
Dosage adjustment may be necessary for patients with renal or hepatic impairment.
Interaction:
Avoid mixing or administering with calcium-containing solutions (e.g., Ringer’s solution).
Use cautiously with nephrotoxic or ototoxic drugs.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to ceftriaxone, cephalosporins, or penicillins.
Neonates (≤28 days) receiving calcium-containing IV solutions due to risk of precipitation.
Side Effects:
Common: Injection site pain, diarrhea, mild rash.
Serious: Anaphylaxis, pseudomembranous colitis, severe hypersensitivity reactions.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Pregnancy Category B: Safe for use under physician guidance.
Excreted in small amounts in breast milk; use with caution during breastfeeding.
Precautions & Warnings:
Perform appropriate culture and sensitivity tests before initiating therapy.
Prolonged use may result in superinfection.
Use with caution in patients with a history of colitis or other gastrointestinal disorders.
Therapeutic Class:

Storage Conditions:
Store below 25°C in a dry place away from light.
Use immediately after reconstitution; discard unused portions.
