CANDORAL Oral Gel is indicated for the treatment of fungal infections in the mouth and throat, including oral thrush caused by Candida species.
Pharmacology
CANDORAL contains miconazole, an antifungal agent that disrupts the fungal cell membrane by inhibiting ergosterol synthesis. This leads to fungal cell death and resolves the infection.
Dosage and Administration
Apply a small amount (approximately 2.5 mL) to the affected area in the mouth 3-4 times daily.
Retain the gel in the mouth for as long as possible before swallowing.
Interaction
Avoid using with medications metabolized by CYP3A4, as miconazole can increase their levels.
Consult your doctor if you are using other antifungal or systemic medications.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to miconazole or any component of the formulation.
Avoid in individuals with known allergies to azole antifungal agents.
Side Effects
Mild irritation, burning, or itching at the site of application.
Rarely, gastrointestinal disturbances like nausea or an unpleasant taste in the mouth.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Should only be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding if the potential benefit outweighs the risk. Consult a healthcare provider before use.
Precautions & Warnings
Not for use in infants younger than 4 months without medical advice.
Avoid contact with eyes. If accidental contact occurs, rinse immediately with water.
Therapeutic Class
Topical antifungal gel.
