Indications:
TURBOCEF 70ML Suspension is used to treat a variety of bacterial infections in children. These include infections of the throat, tonsils, ears (otitis media), urinary tract, respiratory tract, and skin.
Pharmacology:
TURBOCEF contains Cefixime, a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic. It works by blocking the bacteria's ability to form their cell wall, which eventually kills the bacteria. It is effective against many gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.
Dosage & Administration:
The recommended dose for children is 8 mg per kg of body weight per day. This can be taken as a single dose or divided into two doses. The bottle should be shaken well before each use. Dosage should be based on the child's weight, age, and the severity of the infection.
Interaction:
Cefixime may interact with certain medications such as carbamazepine (which may increase its blood level) and anticoagulants like warfarin (which may increase the risk of bleeding). It may also interfere with some urine sugar tests.
Contraindications:
It should not be used in patients who are allergic to cephalosporin antibiotics or any component of the formulation.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and skin rash. Serious allergic reactions are rare but possible.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
TURBOCEF should only be used during pregnancy if absolutely necessary and prescribed by a doctor. Small amounts may pass into breast milk, so caution is advised while breastfeeding.
Precautions & Warnings:
Use with caution in patients with kidney problems. Long-term use may result in resistance or overgrowth of non-susceptible bacteria. Watch for allergic reactions, especially in patients with a history of penicillin allergy.
Therapeutic Class:
Third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic.
Storage Conditions:
Store below 30°C in a cool, dry place away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children. After reconstitution (mixing with water), use within the time period mentioned on the label.
