Indications:
DUVENT 10MG is indicated for the prophylaxis and chronic treatment of asthma, the relief of seasonal allergic rhinitis (hay fever), and the prevention of exercise-induced bronchoconstriction in adults and adolescents.
Pharmacology:
Montelukast is a leukotriene receptor antagonist that inhibits the action of leukotriene D4 in the lungs, reducing inflammation, bronchoconstriction, and mucus production. This leads to improved asthma control and relief from allergic symptoms.
Dosage:

Adults and adolescents (15 years and older): 1 tablet (10 mg) once daily in the evening.

Should be taken even when the patient is asymptomatic.

Not intended for the treatment of acute asthma attacks.
Administration:
Take orally with or without food, preferably in the evening for asthma control.
Interaction:
Montelukast may interact with drugs like phenobarbital, rifampicin, and phenytoin, which induce liver enzymes and may reduce its plasma concentration.
Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to Montelukast or any component of the formulation.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include headache, abdominal pain, cough, dizziness, and fatigue. Rare but serious effects include mood changes, agitation, and sleep disturbances.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use only if clearly needed and prescribed by a physician. Limited data suggest it is relatively safe, but consultation is essential.
Precautions & Warnings:

Not a substitute for inhaled or oral corticosteroids.

Caution in patients with neuropsychiatric conditions.

Monitor for behavioral changes or mood swings.
