Indications
INFORMET 850 mg is prescribed for treating anaerobic bacterial infections, amoebiasis, giardiasis, and trichomoniasis.
Pharmacology
Metronidazole works by penetrating the bacterial and protozoal cells and disrupting their DNA, resulting in cell death and elimination of infection.
Dosage & Administration
Typically, 850 mg is taken twice daily, orally with water, preferably after meals. Duration varies based on infection type.
Interaction
Avoid alcohol consumption during treatment. It may interact with warfarin, lithium, and other drugs metabolized by liver enzymes.
Contraindications
Not recommended for patients allergic to metronidazole, during first trimester of pregnancy, or those with certain blood disorders.
Side Effects
Side effects may include nausea, metallic taste, headache, dizziness, and mild gastrointestinal upset.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Use only if clearly needed during pregnancy and with medical supervision. Caution advised during breastfeeding.
Precautions & Warnings
Alcohol should be avoided during treatment and 48 hours after. Neurological symptoms require prompt medical attention.
