Indications:
FAMOMAX 20MG is indicated for the treatment of gastric and duodenal ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, and conditions involving excessive stomach acid secretion.
Pharmacology:
Famotidine is a selective histamine H2-receptor antagonist that inhibits gastric acid secretion by blocking H2 receptors on gastric parietal cells, thereby reducing acid production.
Dosage:
Typical adult dose is 20 mg twice daily or as prescribed by the physician. Dosage adjustment may be needed in renal impairment.
Administration:
Oral administration with or without food. Should be taken as directed, preferably at the same time daily.
Interaction:
May interact with drugs such as ketoconazole, itraconazole, and drugs requiring acidic environment for absorption. Avoid concomitant use with antacids within 1 hour.
Contraindications:
Contraindicated in patients hypersensitive to Famotidine or other H2 antagonists.
Side Effects:
Possible side effects include headache, dizziness, constipation, diarrhea, and rarely confusion or arrhythmias.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Generally considered safe during pregnancy and lactation but should be used only if clearly needed.
Precautions & Warnings:
Caution in patients with renal impairment or liver disease. Monitor for signs of gastric malignancy if symptoms persist.
