Indications
LACRISON T is indicated for:

  • Dry eye syndrome associated with bacterial infection

  • Ocular surface inflammation with risk of infection

  • Post-surgical eye care to prevent infection and dryness

  • Relieving eye irritation with bacterial conjunctivitis

Pharmacology

  • Carboxymethylcellulose Sodium: A lubricant that mimics natural tears, moisturizing the eye surface and relieving dryness and irritation.

  • Torbramycin: A broad-spectrum aminoglycoside antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis and treats infections caused by susceptible bacteria like Staphylococcus and Pseudomonas species.

Dosage & Administration

  • 1 drop in the affected eye(s) every 4–6 hours or as directed by a physician

  • In more severe infections, dosing may be increased to every 2 hours initially

  • Continue using for the full prescribed duration even if symptoms improve

  • Do not touch the dropper tip or allow it to touch the eye surface

Interaction

  • Should not be used simultaneously with other aminoglycosides to avoid additive toxicity

  • Maintain a 5–10 minute gap between this and other ophthalmic drops/ointments

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to Torbramycin, Carboxymethylcellulose, or other aminoglycosides

  • Viral or fungal eye infections

Side Effects

  • Common: Temporary eye irritation, stinging, blurred vision

  • Rare: Eyelid swelling, itching, allergic reaction, overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms with prolonged use

Pregnancy & Lactation

  • Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed and prescribed

  • Caution advised in lactating mothers; consult physician before use

Precautions & Warnings

  • Do not wear contact lenses during treatment of eye infection

  • Avoid contamination of the dropper tip

  • Prolonged use may lead to resistance or fungal superinfection

  • Use with caution in patients with kidney disease (due to Torbramycin)
