ATOVA EZ 20/10 MG Tablet is indicated for:
Patients with hypercholesterolemia (high LDL cholesterol) not controlled by diet alone.
Mixed dyslipidemia with elevated LDL and triglycerides, and low HDL.
Cardiovascular risk reduction in patients with existing heart conditions or multiple risk factors.
Treatment of familial hypercholesterolemia.
Pharmacology:
ATOVA EZ contains a combination of:
Atorvastatin (20mg): An HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor that reduces cholesterol synthesis in the liver, lowers LDL cholesterol, and increases HDL cholesterol.
Ezetimibe (10mg): Inhibits cholesterol absorption in the intestines, complementing Atorvastatin’s action for enhanced cholesterol reduction.
This dual mechanism effectively improves lipid profiles, reducing cardiovascular risks.
Dosage & Administration:
Adults: One tablet daily, taken with or without food. Dosage adjustments may depend on lipid profile response.
Children (>10 years): As prescribed by the physician, typically a lower dose.
Administer at a consistent time each day for optimal results.
Interaction:
Increased risk of muscle toxicity when used with fibrates or niacin.
Grapefruit juice should be avoided as it may elevate atorvastatin levels.
Ezetimibe may interact with bile acid sequestrants, reducing its efficacy.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to Atorvastatin, Ezetimibe, or any excipients in the formulation.
Active liver disease or unexplained persistent elevations in liver enzymes.
Pregnancy and lactation.
Side Effects:
Common: Headache, nausea, muscle pain, diarrhea, abdominal pain.
Rare: Rhabdomyolysis, severe muscle damage, elevated liver enzymes, allergic reactions.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Pregnancy: Contraindicated (Category X) as it may harm fetal development.
Lactation: Avoid use due to the potential passage of the drug into breast milk.
Precautions & Warnings:
Regularly monitor liver function and lipid profile.
Stop immediately if unexplained muscle pain, weakness, or tenderness occurs.
Use cautiously in patients with a history of liver disease or excessive alcohol consumption.
Therapeutic Class:
Lipid-lowering agents (Statin + Cholesterol absorption inhibitor).
Storage Conditions:
Store in a cool, dry place below 25°C.
Protect from light and moisture.
Keep out of reach of children.
