Indications:
Prosan 25mg is indicated for the treatment of major depressive disorder, anxiety, neuropathic pain, migraine prophylaxis, and sleep disorders.
Pharmacology:
Prosan contains amitriptyline, a tricyclic antidepressant that inhibits the reuptake of norepinephrine and serotonin, increasing their levels in the brain and improving mood, sleep, and emotional balance.
Dosage:

Adults: 25–75 mg per day in divided doses or as a single dose at bedtime. Dosage may be increased gradually by the physician.

Elderly: Lower initial doses are recommended.
Dosage should always be individualized and adjusted by a registered physician.
Administration:
Take orally with or without food. Best taken at the same time each day, preferably at night to reduce drowsiness during the day.
Interaction:
May interact with MAO inhibitors, SSRIs, anticholinergics, CNS depressants, and alcohol. Risk of serotonin syndrome with serotonergic drugs.
Contraindications:
Contraindicated in patients with recent myocardial infarction, arrhythmias, or known hypersensitivity to amitriptyline.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include dry mouth, dizziness, drowsiness, constipation, blurred vision, and weight gain. Serious but rare effects include cardiac arrhythmia, seizures, or suicidal thoughts.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed. Caution is advised during lactation as small amounts may pass into breast milk.
Precautions & Warnings:
Caution in patients with heart disease, epilepsy, liver impairment, or glaucoma. Avoid alcohol and abrupt discontinuation.
