Indications:
Olmesan 20 mg is used to treat essential hypertension. It may be prescribed alone or in combination with other antihypertensive drugs.
Pharmacology:
Olmesartan medoxomil, the active ingredient, is a selective angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB). It prevents the binding of angiotensin II to its receptor, causing blood vessels to relax and reducing blood pressure.
Dosage:
The typical adult dose is 20 mg once daily. Depending on patient response, the dose can be adjusted by a healthcare provider.
Administration:
Should be taken once daily, with or without food, at the same time each day for consistent blood pressure control.
Interaction:
May interact with potassium supplements, NSAIDs, lithium, and other antihypertensive drugs. These combinations may enhance side effects or reduce efficacy.
Contraindications:
Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to olmesartan and during pregnancy. Not recommended for patients with severe kidney or liver issues.
Side Effects:
Possible side effects include dizziness, fatigue, headache, nausea, and back pain. In rare cases, low blood pressure or kidney impairment may occur.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use is strongly discouraged during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters. Use during lactation should be done only if absolutely necessary under medical supervision.
Precautions & Warnings:
Monitor blood pressure regularly. Caution is advised in patients with volume depletion, renal or hepatic impairment. Not recommended during pregnancy.
