Indications:
Relief of pain and inflammation in osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis
Acute musculoskeletal injuries
Postoperative pain and inflammation
Dysmenorrhea (painful menstruation)
Pharmacology:
Diclofenac sodium is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that works by inhibiting cyclooxygenase (COX-1 and COX-2) enzymes, reducing the synthesis of prostaglandins responsible for pain and inflammation.
Dosage & Administration:
The usual dose is 100 to 200 mg per day, divided into two or three doses. Take with food or milk to reduce gastrointestinal irritation.
Interaction:
May interact with anticoagulants, other NSAIDs, corticosteroids, ACE inhibitors, diuretics, and lithium. Use caution to avoid increased risk of bleeding and kidney issues.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to diclofenac or other NSAIDs
History of asthma, urticaria, or allergic reactions after NSAID use
Active gastrointestinal bleeding or ulcers
Severe heart, liver, or kidney disease
Side Effects:
Common: nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhea, dizziness, headache
Serious: gastrointestinal bleeding, ulceration, cardiovascular events, allergic reactions
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Avoid use during the third trimester of pregnancy. Use only if clearly needed during the first and second trimesters. Caution advised during breastfeeding.
Precautions & Warnings:
Monitor for signs of gastrointestinal bleeding
Use lowest effective dose for shortest duration possible
Caution in patients with cardiovascular disease or risk factors
Avoid in severe renal or hepatic impairment
