ATOVA 10MG Tablet is indicated for:
Primary prevention of cardiovascular events in patients with multiple risk factors.
Treatment of high cholesterol (hypercholesterolemia).
Mixed dyslipidemia, characterized by elevated LDL and triglycerides with reduced HDL.
Secondary prevention in patients with established cardiovascular disease.
Pharmacology:
Atova contains Atorvastatin, a potent HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor:
It lowers cholesterol synthesis in the liver.
Reduces LDL cholesterol by increasing hepatic LDL receptor uptake.
Improves HDL levels and reduces triglycerides, offering comprehensive lipid profile improvement.
Dosage & Administration:
Adults: Start with 10 mg once daily. Adjust as per response, up to a maximum of 80 mg/day.
Children (10-17 years): 10 mg once daily, adjusted based on needs.
Administer with or without food, preferably at the same time daily.
Interaction:
Risk of increased toxicity with fibrates or niacin.
Grapefruit juice may elevate atorvastatin levels, increasing side effect risk.
Potential interactions with antibiotics like erythromycin or antifungals.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to atorvastatin or similar medications.
Active liver disease or unexplained persistent elevations in liver enzymes.
Contraindicated in pregnancy and lactation.
Side Effects:
Common: Dizziness, headache, nausea, constipation, abdominal pain.
Rare: Myopathy, liver enzyme elevations, rhabdomyolysis.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Pregnancy Category X: Contraindicated as it may harm the fetus.
Women of childbearing age should use contraception.
Not recommended during breastfeeding.
Precautions & Warnings:
Regularly monitor lipid profiles and liver function tests.
Stop medication immediately if severe muscle pain or weakness occurs.
Use cautiously in patients with a history of liver disease or alcohol abuse.
